Tasting Characteristics

At Abadía Retuerta, Petit Verdot is elevated from supporting role to solo star. On the unique estates of Sardón de Duero and Castilla y León, under full sun and sandy-limestone soils, this 2020 bottling reflects the estate’s meticulous parcel selection and barrel aging. Concentrated yet balanced, it showcases power without sacrificing elegance.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma / Nose: Intense bouquet of ripe black fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), florals like violet, subtle mocha and tobacco leaf, along with hints of licorice and cedar from the oak.
Secondary
Palate / Taste: Full-bodied and structured, with dark berry core, firm but ripe tannins, layered spices (cinnamon, clove), cedar and dark chocolate from oak ageing. Mineral undercurrent and cool freshness give it lift.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, warm and persistent — black fruit echoes, subtle coffee/roast notes, savoury bark and a lingering tannic grip that invites patience.
Gastronomy

Serve at 16-18 C after decanting 30–45 minutes to open the complex aromas and soften the structure. Pair with intensely flavoured and textured dishes: grilled rib-eye steak, slow-roasted lamb shoulder with rosemary and garlic, wild boar ragout, or mature hard cheeses like aged Manchego or Comté. The wine’s bold fruit and oak-driven structure make it excellent for rich, umami-laden meals where tannins and depth are needed.
