Tasting Characteristics

Aberlour 16YO stands at the elegant midpoint between the bright fruit of the 12YO and the deep richness of the 18YO. Sixteen years in American oak and sherry casks create a whisky with velvety texture, warm fruit, nutty sweetness, and refined spice. It’s balanced, sophisticated, and unmistakably Aberlour.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Honeycomb, stewed plums, ripe pear, vanilla, raisins, toasted almond, and warm baking spice.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Silky, rich, and gently sweet — honey, caramel, sultanas, poached pear, cocoa, and polished oak with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, warming, smooth — with lingering dried fruit, honey, and refined oak spice.
Gastronomy

A whisky with this level of sherry depth pairs beautifully with foods that reflect its sweetness, richness, and warm spice. According to professional pairing principles (The Tasting Alliance, spirits–food matching guides), sherried malts excel alongside roasted meats, caramelised elements, dried fruit, and creamy desserts.

Best enjoyed neat. Ideal pairings include duck breast, pork tenderloin with fruit glaze, or roasted game. For dessert, choose fig tart, crème caramel, or dark chocolate with nuts. Semi-hard cheeses like gouda or comté also complement its honeyed warmth.
