Tasting Characteristics

Fonseca 10 YO brings together multiple grape cultivars from the Douro region, blended and aged for ten years in seasoned oak — a tradition combining the region’s bold fruit with oxidative maturation. The long cask ageing softens tannins, integrates flavours, and deepens colour to a glowing amber. The outcome is a fortified wine with richness, complexity, and a timeless sense of calm maturity.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Dried fig, prune, baked plum, raisin, walnut, caramel, toffee, orange peel, touch of cedar and soft spice. Warm, enveloping, layered.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Full-bodied and velvety, with flavours of dried fruits (fig, plum, raisin), toasted nuts, caramel, dark chocolate, orange zest, a hint of coffee and gentle underpinning of oak-driven spice. Sweetness is rich but balanced by depth and warmth — no heaviness, just a mellow glow.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, lingering, with a tail of dried fruit, nutty richness, a soft echo of sweet spice and gentle bitterness on the finish that cleanses the palate slowly.
Gastronomy

Serve slightly chilled or at cellar temperature (14–16 °C) in a small port or tulip glass. This 10-year Tawny is perfect as a contemplative after-dinner glass. Pair with aged cheeses (blue cheese, mature gouda), walnut cake, almond tart, dark chocolate desserts, dried fruit platters — ideal when you want richness, warmth and a long finish.
