Tasting Characteristics

Fonseca’s LBV is produced from high-quality grapes sourced from prime Douro Valley vineyards. Aged 4–6 years in large wooden vats, it gains smoothness and maturity while preserving the deep, youthful fruit that defines the LBV style. It offers a near-Vintage Port experience without the decades of cellaring — concentrated, structured and full of dark, spicy intensity.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Blackberry, cassis, black cherry, dark plum, cocoa powder, licorice, clove, warm spice and hints of dark chocolate.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Full-bodied, sweet and powerful. Deep flavours of black fruit, blueberry conserve, dark cherry, cocoa, spice and a touch of fruitcake richness. Tannins are firm yet polished, with enough grip to give structure. The sweetness is opulent but well-balanced by acidity and depth.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, warming and intense, with lingering dark fruit, chocolate, spice and a touch of raisin.
Gastronomy

Serve slightly chilled or at 14–16°C. This LBV shines as a dessert wine or evening sipper. Pair with strong cheeses (Stilton, Roquefort, aged cheddar), dark chocolate desserts, brownies, truffles, fruitcake, roasted nuts or berry-based pastries. Its richness complements bold flavours, creamy textures and deep cocoa notes.
