Tasting CharacteristicsFonseca Tawny is crafted from selected Douro grapes and matured in seasoned oak, where slow oxidation softens tannins and deepens complexity. Unlike Ruby, which is fruit-forward, Tawny develops dried fruit, nut, and caramel tones. This blend captures the classic Tawny profile: elegant sweetness, a silky texture and an inviting amber glow.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Dried fig, golden raisin, toffee, caramel, walnut, almond, subtle cinnamon, orange peel and light oak warmth.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Smooth, sweet and rounded. Notes of dried fruits, caramel, roasted nuts, baked apple, sultana, light spice and hints of honeyed wood. Balanced sweetness supported by a gentle acidity.
Tertiary
Finish: Medium-long, nutty, warm and softly spiced, with lingering caramel and dried fruit richness.
GastronomyServe slightly chilled (12–14°C). Tawny is ideal as an aperitif or after-dinner wine. Pair with pecan pie, almond tart, crème brûlée, nut-based desserts, dried fruit, caramel pastries, apple pie or soft creamy cheeses. Its warm sweetness enhances both dessert and cheese boards.
