Tasting Characteristics

A bracing Atlantic breeze meets campfire glow: Oak Select layers Laphroaig’s medicinal peat with a lift of vanilla and gentle sweetness from new American oak. Drawn from a mosaic of casks—Oloroso, PX, first-fill bourbon, quarter cask, then a final rest in virgin oak – it balances smoke, brine, and subtle red-fruit tones at an easy 40% ABV. The palate moves from honeyed entry to ashy peat and seaweed, framed by toasted oak spice; the afterglow is saline, lightly drying, and wonderfully moreish.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Forward peat smoke, ripe red fruits, coastal spray, sweet vanillaed oak.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Sweet to start, then classic Laphroaig peat with ash and seaweed; vanilla and spice from new American oak.
Tertiary
Finish: Medium-long, smoky and lightly tannic with a lingering briny snap.
Gastronomy

For the moment, keep it neat in a tulip glass or add a few drops of water. Pair with briny oysters, smoked salmon, blue cheese, or char-grilled duck—intensity and salt/fat tame the peat while echoing its maritime notes. These align with widely accepted pairing basics: match intensity, use salt/fat to soften alcohol/phenolics, and bridge flavors (smoke, umami, cacao). For a cocktail route, try a minimal-dilution Penicillin riff.
