Tasting Characteristics

Schäfer-Fröhlich, perched in the Nahe region, extracts the volcanic heartbeat of its terroir in “Vulkangestein” — combining parcels from Schloßböckelheim’s Felsenberg and Bockenau’s Stromberg. The 2022 vintage retains the house’s hallmark tension and minerality but in a more approachable form than the top‐tier GG labels. It’s genuine, pure and terrior-driven.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Lively citrus zest (lemon, lime), green apple skin, white peach, subtle matchstick/smoke and wild herb tones hinting at volcanic rock.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: The palate is clean yet layered: tart citrus fruit, stony mineral core, racy acidity and a silky yet tense texture. The volcanic soils whisper through in a saline‐mineral thread.
Tertiary
Finish: Crisp and lingering, with citrus pith, cool herbs, savoury stone and that salty‐mineral trail inviting another sip.
Gastronomy

Serve chilled at around 10 C in a narrow white‐wine glass to preserve aromatic lift and acidity. This wine thrives alongside fresh, vibrant dishes: think sashimi with yuzu, seared sea-bass with fennel, citrus‐marinated prawns, or even vegetarian plates textured with grilled zucchini, herbs and olive oil. The crisp acidity and stony minerality complement seafood & vegetable-centric profiles exceptionally well.
