Tasting Characteristics

Martini Bitter draws on the heritage of the Turin-based Martini & Rossi company (est. 1863) and channels the tradition of Italian bitters with an authentic recipe developed by Luigi Rossi in 1872. It harnesses more than twenty selected herbs and roots—including distinctive botanicals such as saffron, angostura bark and calumba root—to create a bitter-sweet profile and vivid colour that performs equally well neat or in cocktails.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Bright orange-peel zest, herbaceous bitterness (wormwood, rabarbaro), spice (cardamom, cinnamon) and a gentle floral-root base.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Initial sweetness from citrus and herbal syrup, moving into a firm bitter core of roots and botanicals, balanced by a vegetal-spice nuance and crisp dryness.
Tertiary
Finish: Medium length; lingering herb-and-orange bitterness, with a dry aftertaste and subtle warmth from the botanicals.
Gastronomy

Serve chilled over one large ice cube with a slice of orange, or use as the backbone of classic cocktails such as the Negroni or Americano. The bitter-herbal complexity and citrus edge make it a strong match for smoked meats, aged pecorino cheese, charcuterie, or tomato-based rich dishes where the bitterness can cleanse and refresh the palate.
