Tasting Characteristics

A classic Ripasso that bridges everyday Valpolicella and Amarone depth – richer, darker, and unmistakably serious.

Zeni 1870 Valpolicella Superiore DOC Ripasso 2022 is produced using the traditional Ripasso method, where Valpolicella wine undergoes a second fermentation on the skins of Amarone grapes. This process adds concentration, structure, and depth while preserving freshness and balance. Coming from the historic Valpolicella zone, this wine reflects Zeni`s long-standing family expertise and a style that prioritizes drinkability without sacrificing complexity. It is structured, gastronomic, and versatile – a wine designed to overdeliver at the table.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Ripe cherry, blackcurrant, and dried plum layered with subtle spice, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla from oak aging.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Medium-plus body with a rounded, velvety texture. Dark red fruit dominates, supported by gentle tannins, baking spice, and a savory undertone typical of Ripasso wines.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, dry, and warming, with lingering notes of cherry, spice, and soft oak.
Gastronomy

Best served at 16-18 C, ideally after short aeration. This Ripasso excels with roasted meats, braised beef, pork shoulder, and pasta dishes with rich tomato or meat-based sauces. Its balance of fruit concentration and tannin structure also makes it an excellent match for semi-aged cheeses such as Asiago, Montasio, or aged Gouda. The wine`s depth complements umami-driven dishes without overwhelming them, making it a reliable choice for both casual dinners and more structured meals.
