Tasting CharacteristicsAngostura Aromatic Bitters traces its origins to 1824 when German surgeon-general Johann Gottlieb Benjamin Siegert developed a medicinal tonic in Angostura (now Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela) for the troops of Simón Bolívar. The production was later moved to Trinidad, and the formula has remained a closely guarded secret. Today, the House of Angostura’s aromatic bitters are ubiquitous in cocktail craft and culinary applications worldwide.
