Tasting Characteristics

Viña Hermosa Gran Reserva 2018 comes from the storied vineyards of Bodegas Santalba in Rioja. Crafted exclusively from Tempranillo and matured 26 months in American oak barrels, then aged further in bottle, the wine delivers a depth and maturity only possible through patience and meticulous traditional Rioja methods.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: A deep, concentrated bouquet of black cherry, plum and dark berry is layered with vanilla, cocoa, subtle leather, tobacco and warm oak spice. Hints of dried herbs, toasted oak and balsamic undertones round out the complexity.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: On the palate the wine is full and velvety, with mature dark fruit — blackcurrant, plum — melding with nuanced touches of leather, dark chocolate, cedar, and tobacco. Balanced acidity keeps the richness in check while firm, polished tannins add structure and length.
Tertiary
Finish: A long, persistent finish where fruit fades into warm oak spice, cedar and a lingering hint of cocoa and earth. The aftertaste evolves with air — becoming more refined, showing Rioja’s elegant ageing potential.
Gastronomy

Serve at 17 C after about 30–60 minutes decanting to let the wine unfurl. This Gran Reserva shines alongside richly-flavored dishes: roasted beef or lamb, game (venison, wild boar), hearty stews, or slow-cooked casseroles. It also pairs superbly with mature cheeses (such as aged Manchego or Pecorino) and charcuterie — the wine’s depth and oak-driven spice complement salted, cured, or smoky flavors beautifully.
