Tasting Characteristics“Umberta” is Fabrizio Iuli’s most immediate and approachable Barbera: organically farmed, spontaneously fermented and aged in cement to preserve purity. In 2022, warm days and cool Monferrato nights yielded fruit of great vitality. The wine avoids heaviness, embracing a crunchy, energetic profile with silky tannins and a whisper of rustic charm — the hallmark of Iuli’s minimal-intervention philosophy.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Red cherry, raspberry, red plum, crushed violets, subtle herbs, gentle earth and a touch of wild berry brightness.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Medium-light, juicy and ultra-fresh. Red cherries, sour cherry, cranberry, light plum, soft spice and a faint savory/earthy note typical of cement-aged Barbera. Acidity is vivid and mouthwatering; tannins are soft and integrated.
Tertiary
Finisz: Medium, clean and refreshing, with lingering red fruit and a gentle herbal twist.
GastronomyServe slightly chilled (14–16°C). Ideal with pizza Margherita, tomato-based pasta, roasted chicken, charcuterie, grilled vegetables, light cheeses, risotto al pomodoro and simple trattoria dishes. Its bright acidity and juicy fruit make it a perfect everyday food wine.
