Tasting Characteristics

A glass of Royale Réserve Brut from Philipponnat invites you into the heart of classic Champagne – refined yet soulful, vivid yet grounded in tradition.

This cuvée draws its depth from the storied vineyards of Mareuil-sur-Ay and surrounding Grand/Premier Cru terroirs, where the house – founded centuries ago, tends primarily to Pinot Noir, complemented by Chardonnay and a touch of Pinot Meunier. A portion of the blend comes from reserve wines aged via solera, resting in contact with lees for 3-4 years to build complexity, then blended into the non-vintage base. The result: a Champagne rooted in heritage, crafted to express both freshness and vinosity, tradition and finesse.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Lime-blossom and vine-flower mingle with hints of fresh brioche, gently toasted bread and a wisp of honey. On aeration, subtle red-fruit whispers (raspberry, redcurrant) emerge alongside citrus and orchard-fruit brightness.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: The sip opens with a vinous, fruit-forward burst — redcurrant, ripe grape and soft raspberry, framed by crisp citrus and gentle minerality. The mousse is lively yet refined, offering a rounded body and a creamy, almost silky mid-palate balanced by fresh acidity.
Tertiary
Finish: The finale lingers with notes of biscuit, warm brioche, and freshly baked bread - subtle yeast-driven warmth and gentle dryness, closing with a refined mineral undertone.
Gastronomy

Serve chilled at 8 C, ideally as an aperitif or at the start of a meal. Its balance of fruit, brightness, and subtle yeastiness makes it an excellent companion to delicate or nuanced dishes – from shellfish and seafood, to white meats and refined charcuterie.
