Tasting CharacteristicsWaipara West Two Terrace Pinot Noir 2020 comes from selected parcels planted on two distinct limestone terraces, which give the wine its added depth and textural definition. Compared to the estate Pinot Noir, this cuvée shows greater concentration and structural clarity while maintaining freshness and restraint. Winemaking remains minimalist, with gentle extraction and restrained use of mostly older French oak to preserve transparency and terroir expression. This is Pinot Noir built on balance, tension, and place rather than ripeness.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry layered with rose petal, dried herbs, subtle spice, and a pronounced limestone-mineral note.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Medium-plus bodied and finely structured, showing precise red fruit, savory herbal tones, and a chalky mineral backbone. Tannins are fine-grained and more present than the standard cuvée, adding grip and length, while acidity remains fresh and linear.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, dry, and focused, with lingering red fruit, mineral tension, and a cool, stony close.
GastronomyServe at 14–16°C to emphasize aromatic detail and structure. A short decant is recommended to allow the wine to open fully. Two Terrace Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, duck, pork, mushroom dishes, and refined vegetable cuisine.
