Tasting Characteristics

Le Petit Mouton 2018 — the second wine of the illustrious Château Mouton Rothschild — embodies the bold, opulent character of the Pauillac terroir, shaped by one of Bordeaux’s greatest modern vintages. Crafted mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc, it mirrors the Grand Vin’s grandeur with youthful vibrancy and approachability. The 2018 vintage offers power wrapped in silk — a wine of depth, perfume, and remarkable precision.

Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum unfold with layers of cedar, cigar box, and graphite. Hints of cocoa, vanilla, and violets add seductive complexity.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Concentrated yet elegant, revealing dense dark fruit, cassis, and roasted coffee tones. The tannins are velvety and fine-grained, balanced by vibrant freshness and subtle spice.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, structured, and polished, leaving notes of black cherry, mocha, and pencil lead lingering with Pauillac refinement.
Gastronomy

Le Petit Mouton 2018 deserves dishes of equal stature. It pairs superbly with dry-aged ribeye, roast lamb with rosemary and garlic, or beef Wellington. Its concentration and aromatic depth also complement venison stew, duck breast with blackberry sauce, or wild mushroom ragout. For a gourmet vegetarian option, pair with truffle risotto or grilled portobello mushrooms with thyme — the wine’s earthy complexity mirrors these savory notes beautifully. Aged Comté, Pecorino, or a firm Cantal complete the experience. Decant for an hour before serving to fully reveal its layered perfume and velvet structure.
