Tasting CharacteristicsContrada Marchesa is a single-vineyard Etna Rosso crafted from old bush-trained vines growing on black volcanic sands at ~750 m on the northern slopes of Etna. The 2019 vintage reflects a cool, linear expression of Nerello Mascalese: aromatic finesse, mineral depth, and a tannin structure reminiscent of top Burgundy with Sicilian soul. Ageing in large French oak brings gentle roundness, never dominating the terroir’s tension and purity.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose petals, blood orange, ash, crushed volcanic stone, sweet tobacco and subtle spice.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Elegant and finely etched. Red berries, pomegranate, citrus zest, savoury herbs, balsamic hints and volcanic minerality. Tannins are refined yet firm, with a silky but energetic texture. Acidity is crisp, driving the wine with mouthwatering precision.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, smoky-mineral, floral and beautifully persistent, with red fruit echo and fine herbal lift.
GastronomyServe at 16–18°C. Ideal with lamb chops, roasted duck, grilled tuna steak, mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, game birds, parmesan-crusted vegetables or aged Sicilian pecorino. Its combination of finesse and smokiness enhances both elegant meats and earthy Mediterranean cuisine.
