Tasting CharacteristicsDonnafugata Fragore 2020 embodies the raw beauty of Etna’s volcanic slopes — intense, elegant, and deeply mineral. Crafted from old-vine Nerello Mascalese grown on lava-rich soils at over 700 meters altitude, it captures the mountain’s duality: fire and finesse. The palate is layered with red fruit, spice, and smoky minerality, framed by taut acidity and fine tannins. A wine of depth, emotion, and unmistakable sense of place — Sicily at its most refined.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Expressive and complex — wild cherry, blackcurrant, and pomegranate intertwined with notes of Mediterranean herbs, black pepper, tobacco, and volcanic stone.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Elegant yet powerful — layered red fruit, minerality, and earthy spice balanced by lively acidity and silky tannins. The texture is vibrant and deep, revealing Etna’s signature tension.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, structured, and persistent with lingering notes of fruit, graphite, and savory herbs.
GastronomyIdeal with roast lamb, game, or aged pecorino. Its volcanic minerality complements mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, and grilled red meats beautifully. For a vegetarian match, try eggplant caponata or lentil stew with herbs. Serve at 18 °C in large Burgundy-style glasses to let the aromas unfold. A contemplative wine for slow meals and meaningful moments.
