Tasting CharacteristicsGenuine expression of the little-known Verdeca grape from Salento, the far-southern heel of Italy’s boot. The 2023 vintage of Alice Salento IGT Verdeca comes from vines grown on limestone-rich soils in a warm maritime climate. Winemaking is straightforward, focusing on freshness, bright fruit and a clean, steely profile rather than oak or heavy extraction.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma / Nose: Pale straw-yellow hue. Aromatic notes of fresh lemon zest, green apple skins, white blossoms and a hint of Mediterranean herb and saline breeze.
Secondary
Palate / Taste: Crisp and lean on the palate — grapefruit and lime, a slice of pear, balanced by brisk acidity, subtle chalky minerality and a clean texture that feels bright rather than heavy.
Tertiary
Finish: A refreshing medium-finish that carries citrus pith, light herb undertones and mineral salinity — clean and inviting another sip.
GastronomyChill to around 8-10 C. This wine thrives as an aperitif or with light, fresh fare. Ideal with grilled sea bass or dorade, fresh shellfish, shrimp ceviche with lemon and herbs, or crisp summer salads with citrus or green apple. The wine’s acidity and mineral edge match seafood and lighter vegetarian dishes without overpowering them. Pairing guidance aligns with the principles of freshness, acidity match and mineral synergy.
