Tasting CharacteristicsBrunel de la Gardine Condrieu 2020 is crafted from Viognier grown on steep, granite-rich slopes of the Northern Rhône. While Condrieu is often associated with overt aromatics and opulence, this expression leans toward control and texture. Careful handling in the cellar, with lees contact and restrained élevage, builds mouthfeel without blurring definition. The 2020 vintage brings ripeness, but the wine remains composed, shaped by mineral tension and savory nuance rather than excess perfume.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Apricot, ripe peach, and pear, layered with orange blossom, honeysuckle, subtle almond, and a faint granite-mineral note.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Dry and medium-plus bodied, showing stone fruit richness balanced by a smooth, rounded texture. Acidity is moderate but sufficient to keep the wine focused. Lees influence adds depth and gentle creaminess without heaviness.
Tertiary
Finish: Long and polished, with lingering stone fruit, floral tones, and a lightly savory, mineral close.
GastronomyServe at 10–12°C to preserve freshness and aromatic clarity. This Condrieu pairs beautifully with shellfish, scallops, lobster, and refined fish dishes, as well as poultry in creamy or lightly spiced sauces. Its texture and aromatic depth also work well with dishes featuring subtle sweetness, herbs, or Asian-inspired seasoning. Best enjoyed slowly, with food.
