Tasting CharacteristicsSaldo Zinfandel 2021 reflects the brand’s signature philosophy: maximum flavor, generous texture, and zero restraint. Sourced from old-vine Zinfandel vineyards across California, the wine emphasizes concentration and richness over subtlety. Warm growing conditions drive ripe fruit expression, while oak aging adds structure, spice, and depth. This is a modern, muscular Zinfandel designed for drinkers who enjoy intensity and warmth rather than finesse.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Explosive aromas of blackberry jam, ripe plum, and black cherry, followed by notes of sweet spice, vanilla, cocoa, and a hint of baking spices.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Full-bodied and plush, delivering layers of dark fruit, blackberry compote, and raisined cherry. Oak contributes notes of chocolate and spice, while elevated alcohol provides warmth and richness. Tannins are soft and rounded, prioritizing texture over grip.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, warm, and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, sweet spice, and a subtle oak-driven sweetness.
GastronomySaldo Zinfandel`s lush fruit and subtle spice make it a natural companion to grilled or braised meats. Pair it with slow-cooked short ribs, barbecued pork, or wood-fired pizza topped with caramelized onions and Italian sausage. The wine`s jammy depth and oak warmth mirror the smoky, savory richness of these dishes, where intensity and texture alignment are key.
For a more elevated experience, try it with aged cheddar or a flourless chocolate cake – the wine`s tannic grip and berry-driven sweetness highlight both creamy and bittersweet nuances beautifully.
