Tasting CharacteristicsThe Prisoner Red Blend 2021 is the wine that defined the brand’s identity—a bold, Zinfandel-driven blend crafted to push against traditional expectations. Sourced from multiple Californian vineyards, the wine emphasizes ripe fruit concentration, dark spice, and layered texture. Oak aging is unapologetic, shaping the wine’s structure and amplifying its richness rather than hiding it. This is not a subtle wine; it is built to be expressive, dramatic, and immediately recognizable.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Blackberry, black cherry, and ripe plum dominate, followed by notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, clove, and toasted oak.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Full-bodied and powerful, with dense dark fruit, sweet spice, and a plush mouthfeel. Tannins are firm but polished, giving structure without harshness. Despite its richness, the wine maintains enough acidity to stay controlled.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, warm, and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, cocoa, and spice carried by oak depth.
GastronomyServe at 16–18°C and decant for at least 45–60 minutes to fully open the wine and integrate alcohol and oak. The Prisoner Red Blend pairs best with grilled or smoked meats, ribs, burgers, barbecue dishes, and richly seasoned cuisine. Its bold profile also works well with aged hard cheeses and dishes featuring caramelization, smoke, or umami-heavy sauces. This is a wine for evenings and statement meals.
