Tasting CharacteristicsTenuta Ulisse Nativae Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2019 represents the winery’s premium expression of the variety, built around concentration and balance rather than rustic force. Low yields and careful extraction give the wine density and structure, while oak aging adds shape and refinement without overwhelming the fruit. The 2019 vintage delivers ripe phenolics alongside enough freshness to keep the wine focused and age-worthy. This is a contemporary Montepulciano with ambition and clarity.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Ripe blackberry, black cherry, and plum, layered with notes of cocoa, sweet spice, vanilla, and a touch of balsamic depth.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Full-bodied and velvety, with concentrated dark fruit, chocolate, and subtle oak spice. Tannins are abundant but polished, creating a smooth, enveloping texture. Acidity provides balance, preventing heaviness despite the wine’s richness.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, persistent, and warming, with lingering dark fruit, cocoa, and gentle spice.
GastronomyServe at 16–18°C and decant for 30–60 minutes to allow the wine to fully open and integrate its structure. This Montepulciano pairs naturally with grilled or roasted meats, beef stews, lamb, and rich pasta dishes. Its depth and tannin profile also work well with aged hard cheeses and dishes featuring slow-cooked sauces or umami-rich components.
