Tasting CharacteristicsMarto Weiss is a village-style white that reflects Marto Wines’ low-intervention philosophy without drifting into instability or excess. The 2021 vintage emphasizes tension and clarity rather than overt fruit. Mixed white varieties are vinified with spontaneous fermentation and gentle handling, sometimes with brief skin contact, which adds grip and subtle phenolic texture. The wine remains firmly dry, with moderate alcohol and a profile built for the table rather than aromatics-driven drinking.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma / Nose: Green apple, pear skin, and citrus peel, followed by herbal notes, faint florality, and a light yeasty nuance typical of natural fermentations.
Secondary
Palate / Taste: Dry and energetic, driven by fresh acidity and a lightly textured mid-palate. Orchard fruit and citrus are layered with gentle bitterness and a saline edge, giving the wine structure without weight.
Tertiary
Finish: Clean and savory, medium in length, with citrus zest, light phenolics, and a subtle mineral impression.
GastronomyServe well chilled at 9–11°C. This wine excels with food that benefits from acidity and texture rather than aromatics. Vegetable-forward dishes, fermented or pickled elements, and simple fish preparations work particularly well. Its dry finish and gentle phenolic grip also pair naturally with fresh cheeses and dishes built around herbs, grains, or light umami.
