Tasting CharacteristicsChâteau les Croisille Calcaire 2022 translates the cool, calcareous terroir into a right-bank inspired red: approachable yet characterful, with emphasis on red fruit and earthy clarity rather than heavy extraction or oak influence. The wine leans on Merlot (and possibly Cabernet Franc), delivering a profile of bright cherry and plum, mild spice, and soft mineral undertones. It’s built for versatility — satisfying now, with potential for short-term aging.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, light plum, faint herbaceous soil tone, subtle forest-floor earthiness, and a whisper of dry gravel mineral note.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Medium body, with red berry fruit — cherry, red plum, raspberry — supported by soft tannins, mild spice and an earthy-mineral undertone. The texture is smooth and easy, acidity moderate, giving the wine a balanced, accessible character.
Tertiary
Finish: Medium finish — gentle berry-skin dryness, soft earth and mineral dust, with a clean, slightly savory fade.
GastronomyServe at 16–17 C. This wine is ideal for everyday dining: grilled pork chops, roast chicken with herbs, ratatouille, mushroom risotto, pasta with tomato-herb sauce, or charcuterie and lightly aged cheeses. Its moderate structure and red-fruit core also suit shawarma-style dishes or casual bistro fare with tomato, herbs, and olive oil.
