Tasting CharacteristicsRiesling from Grand Cru Muenchberg is renowned for its singular balance of power and finesse. The volcanic-sandstone soils produce wines of smoky minerality, tension, and remarkable longevity. The 2021 vintage from Domaine G.Metz is vibrant yet deep, shaped by a cooler year that heightened aromatic detail and sharpened acidity. This is a Riesling built on layers — citrus, stone fruit, spice, mineral smoke — unfolding with elegance and quiet authority.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma / Nose: Lime zest, preserved lemon, white peach, pear skin, crushed flint, smoky volcanic notes, white flowers, and a hint of ginger.
Secondary
Palate / Taste: Focused and structured, with citrus brightness, juicy stone fruit, herbal lift, and a firm mineral core. The palate shows both salinity and gentle phenolic grip, giving it depth and gastronomic presence. Acidity is precise, driving the wine forward with tension.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, resonant, and mineral-charged, with lingering citrus oil, stone, and subtle spice.
GastronomyServe at 10–12 C. This Grand Cru Riesling excels with refined dishes: grilled sea bass, scallops, turbot, sushi and sashimi, steamed or poached fish, veal with citrus-herb sauces, poultry with cream and lemon zest, truffle dishes, and mature goat cheeses. Its acidity, structure, and smoky volcanic profile make it ideal for haute cuisine and precise, elegant plates.
