Tasting CharacteristicsFamily Reserve Chenin Blanc is crafted from some of Kleine Zalze’s oldest bush vines, planted on decomposed granite and shale soils in Stellenbosch. Fermentation in French oak and foudres, followed by extended lees aging, gives the wine breadth, texture and complexity while preserving the natural tension and energy of Chenin Blanc. The 2022 vintage shows superb balance between bright acidity, ripe fruit and a clean mineral core — a benchmark South African Chenin of great finesse.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose: Lemon zest, quince, white peach, green apple, chamomile, honeycomb, toasted almond and a fine mineral edge.
Secondary
Palate/Taste: Medium+ body, elegant but richly textured. Notes of citrus, peach, pear, subtle tropical hints, gentle oak spice, lanolin and crushed stone. Lees contact adds creaminess without heaviness. Acidity is linear and vibrant.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, mineral-driven and refined, with lingering citrus, peach skin and delicate oak nuances.
GastronomyServe at 10–12°C. Ideal with grilled prawns, scallops, white fish, roast chicken, spiced North African dishes, creamy pasta, mushroom risotto, goat cheese and mildly aromatic curries. Its mineral depth and textured profile pair beautifully with both seafood and richer dishes.
