Tasting CharacteristicsA pure, terroir-driven Riesling shaped by Mosel’s grey slate soils, Schmitges Grauschiefer 2022 delivers crystalline precision. The palate glides from green apple and lime into a clean mineral core, lifted by saline acidity. It’s both vivid and refined — a classic dry Riesling that captures the cool brilliance of its origin.
Aromas and flavours:
Primary
Aroma/Nose:: Bright and aromatic, with notes of lime zest, green apple, and white peach overlaid with flinty minerality and a touch of wild herbs.
Secondary
Palate/Taste:: Focused and lively, showing citrus, green pear, and crushed stone flavors with subtle floral hints. The texture is sleek and linear, balanced by precise acidity.
Tertiary
Finish: Long, dry, and elegant, marked by citrus peel, wet slate, and a refreshing mineral tension that defines Mosel Riesling.
GastronomyPair this Riesling with seafood and white fish, such as grilled trout, oysters, or sushi. Its crisp acidity complements Asian cuisine — especially Thai salads and light curries — while the mineral backbone shines with goat cheese, asparagus, or citrus-marinated chicken. Serve well-chilled at 8–10 °C for ideal freshness and clarity.
